The Japanese have long been fascinated by the concept of space and extraterrestrial life, giving birth to a unique term for aliens known as "uchuu-jin". Translated literally, it means "space person," a term that's become synonymous with the idea of beings from other planets or galaxies.
In the 19th century, ukiyo-e artists from Kyoto created striking works of art depicting visitors from other worlds in their flying objects, which became the talk of the town. These captivating depictions of UFOs quickly captured the attention of the masses, igniting a wildfire of interest that spread far beyond the borders of Kyoto.
[This is the second in a series of original, digital, fantasy ukiyo-e creations, called "Skies Over Kyoto." It's exclusively available from Sacred Surreal.]
