In Japanese popular culture, science fiction, and other media, extraterrestrial beings from other planets or galaxies are commonly referred to as "uchuu-jin" (宇宙人), which translates to "space person" in English. The term has gained widespread usage in Japan.
During the 19th century, Japanese ukiyo-e artists created mesmerizing depictions of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) that fascinated and intrigued the citizens of Kyoto. These unique works of art played a crucial role in disseminating the concept of uchuu-jin beyond Kyoto, capturing the attention of the general public, who would gather to marvel at the intricate details of the UFOs depicted in the woodblock prints.
