Vajrabhairava, also known as Yamantaka, is a deity worshipped in the Tibetan Buddhist religion. This powerful figure is believed to be an emanation of Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom. Vajrabhairava is often portrayed as a fearsome and wrathful deity with multiple heads, arms, and legs, and is frequently depicted trampling on animals to represent the triumph over ignorance, attachment, and aversion.
Within Tibetan Buddhism, Vajrabhairava is recognized as one of the Eight Herukas, a group of fierce deities that symbolize the transformation of negative emotions into positive qualities. Additionally, he is one of the three primary protective deities of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism, alongside Mahakala and Palden Lhamo.
