Endō Naotsune was a samurai who lived during the Sengoku period of Japan, which lasted from the late 15th to the early 17th century. He served as an officer under the Azai clan and gained a reputation as a fierce warrior during this tumultuous period of Japanese history.

Kuniyoshi often depicted famous warriors and historical events from Japan's past. Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797–1861) was last great ukiyo-e artist, and was known for his distinctive style and contributions to the genre. His prints often featured bold and dynamic compositions, vibrant colors, and imaginative depictions of warriors and legendary heroes.
