Utagawa Kuniyoshi was a Japanese artist who lived from 1798 to 1861 and was known for his ukiyo-e style of woodblock prints and paintings. He is particularly well-known for his depictions of the battles of legendary samurai heroes.

In Kuniyoshi's print, Mitsukuni is depicted with a fierce expression and a determined stance as he faces off against the skeleton. He is shown holding a sword and shield, symbols of his martial prowess and readiness to defend himself and his honor.
