Katayama Yōkoku (1747-1832) was a Japanese artist who worked in the ukiyo-e tradition during the Japanese Edo period. He was born in Kyoto and later moved to Edo (present-day Tokyo) where he established himself as a skilled painter, printmaker, and art teacher. His most famous words include include "Tiger Emerging from Bamboo," "Tiger and Dragon," and "Landscape of the Four Seasons."
Yōkoku was known for his realistic depictions of animals, particularly tigers, and his work was highly sought after by collectors and art enthusiasts during his lifetime. He was also known for his skill in creating landscapes, portraits, and scenes of daily life. In addition to his artistic pursuits, Yōkoku was also a respected teacher and mentor to many aspiring artists.
