In the Nyingma School, Rahula is considered a protector of the "revealed treasure" (terma) tradition, which involves the discovery and preservation of hidden teachings and texts by treasure revealers. This tradition was eventually adopted by other schools of Tibetan Buddhism.
Rahula is also associated with the practice of Chöd, a unique Tibetan meditation practice that involves offering one's body as food to demons and spirits as a means of overcoming fear and attachment. This practice is said to have been introduced to Tibet by the famous female practitioner, Machig Labdrön, who is considered one of the primary lineage holders of the Chöd tradition.
