Space aliens, or "uchuu-jin" (宇宙人) in Japanese, are a common theme in popular culture and science fiction. The word literally means "space person" and is often used to refer to beings from other worlds or galaxies.

In the 19th century, some Japanese ukiyo-e artists created fascinating images of UFOs visiting their land. These artworks helped to spread the idea of the uchuu-jin beyond Kyoto and made them popular among the masses. The UFOs in their wood-block prints were rich in detail and attracted many viewers.
