This piece was inspired by the story of 9th-century monk named Kūkai, who founded the esoteric Shingon school of Buddhism in 806. Although he died in the 9th century, it is said that Kūkai turned to stone and plans to emerge in approximately 5.67 million years to usher a predetermined number of souls into nirvana.
